Location and shape of garden water reservoirs

Due to the great importance of garden reservoirs within green areas and due to the high cost, their construction or adaptation for recreational and leisure purposes should be carried out taking into account many requirements regarding their suitability and durability.. The basic condition to be met is the right location, which must be selected taking into account the type of geological substrate and its properties, the environment and its elements, connection with communication routes and the need to ensure the inflow of a sufficient amount of water and the possibility of emptying the reservoir. The size of the tank surface and its capacity depend on some of the factors mentioned.
The shape of the tank can be adapted to the existing configuration, terrain or otherwise. However, it should always be designed in relation to the general nature of the facility, viewing assumptions, type of elements of the environment, etc..
If water reservoirs are to be used as ice rinks during the winter, it is necessary to properly protect the areas adjacent to the reservoir, especially these, which are planted with various perennials and shrubs. These plants can be destroyed by being trampled on or broken by users of the rink, especially during periods, when there is not a sufficiently thick layer of snow.
The depth of garden tanks can vary, however, it is recommended for security reasons, that the water depth in the coastal part does not exceed 40 cm. It is very important, as it is often difficult to stop children or adolescents from getting into the water. Due to the required slopes of the bottom, the depth of the reservoirs can be much greater in the middle parts, therefore, moving away from the shore for swimming enthusiasts can be dangerous. Therefore, the available edges (terraced tanks, etc.. should be inspected, while, the remaining edges of the tank should be sufficiently visible to those supervising.
