For painting walls and ceilings, You will need a set of basic hand tools to prepare the base for joinery and flooring.
Rollers may be needed to paint walls and ceilings anyway. We paint with a roller covered with fur with wall paints. Rollers with a pea texture or a thicker lamb texture can be used for decorative painting. The roller with a polyurethane sponge cover will be used for painting larger surfaces of the joinery, e.g.. door.
An extension in the form of a telescopic rod can be attached to the shaft, on the end of which the roller handle is screwed on. By working with the roller with an extension, you can reach higher parts of walls and ceilings without having to climb a ladder or a landing.
A drip tray is also useful when painting with a roller. It is dipped in the paint poured on it and rolled over an inclined herringbone surface, to wipe off excess paint. The roller can also be dipped in paint poured into a stainless vessel, preferably buckets with a handle, and remove excess water by rolling it over the drip grid.
Concave corners are difficult to paint with an ordinary roller. In these places it is worth using a corner roller on a long handle, with two or three rollers obliquely positioned.
A large or a bench brush can be used for priming walls and ceilings, or a special wide brush for larger paints.
Wall corners, joinery and other elements are painted with flat brushes of various widths, from 2 do 15 cm. A flat brush with a long one is used to smooth the paint in the fresh coating, soft bristles. The ring brushes can be used to paint the joinery, the same long-haired brush is used to stomp, that is, with perpendicular strokes, it evenly distributes the paint over the surface, receiving a slightly satin texture (semi-matte).
Various types of artistic brushes are used to paint very small and apply decorative elements: round and flat. For painting internal wall corners, cutting off colors in hard-to-reach places, you can use a special round brush with a bent handle, for painting radiators – flat brush with a tilted cap, which can be bent at different angles.
Narrow surfaces near the panes in windows and doors can be painted with a flat brush with diagonal bristles. Its shape avoids staining the glass.
Narrow surfaces of windows or doors can be painted with narrow rollers made of polyurethane sponge.
At painting decorative, it is necessary to firmly support the hand holding the brush. A special stick with a wrapper at one end is used for this purpose. It is held with one hand, leaning the end with the wrapper against the wall, thus protecting the fresh coat of paint from damage. The forearm of the other hand rests on the stick.
One of the currently used painting techniques is the application of paints using special cushions of various shapes, with handles for easy painting. They have a dense brush with short and fine hairs on the bottom of the foot. Their very dense network spreads the paint perfectly on the surface. Kits of these cushions are used primarily for painting wooden surfaces, but they can also be used on smooth walls and ceilings. It is not recommended to use for new plasters and concrete surfaces, because the sharp grains severely damage the tool.
Steel spatulas of different widths or floats of different widths will certainly be useful to prepare the surfaces of walls and ceilings..
The best way to mix the putties is to use half a rubber ball or a vessel made of soft plastic. The flexibility of these items allows a dried putty to easily break out of the interior.
Wall cleaning can be done with a sharp wire or rice brush. Old paint coatings, softened by heating to high temperature or with a chemical preparation, remove with a scraper on a long handle.
A piece of card stock or hard thin cardboard with dimensions of 20 x 20 cm. A roll of adhesive tape may be useful 2 cm.
If we are to use old paints, we have to be prepared to strain them through a painting sieve or an old nylon stocking. The sieve can also be useful for screening products, from which we will make mortars and putties ourselves.
A 2-3 meter measuring tape or folding ruler will be required to mark painted surfaces, pion, chalk rope with a dust container and straight, wooden patch with a cross section of 1×6 cm. It may also turn out to be sharp, strong knife, which is used to cut carpets.
In many cases, especially when preparing paints and multi-component putties, you will need a small stirrer, which will be attached to the chuck of a slow-running drill.
