What electric drill to buy?

What electric drill to buy?

Electric drills were once a luxury item. Currently, they have become an indispensable tool for every DIY enthusiast. But as of these, which is on the market choose this one, which best suits our needs?

When buying an electric drill, we must first of all pay attention to its power. Refer to the user manual for information on the rated download power, but information, which interests us is the usable output power. The latter is usually approx 60% the first one, but the better, the more expensive the drill, the higher the power output to rated power ratio.
For harder work, e.g.. drilling in concrete or as a motor drive for a saw or additional tools, it is best to choose a drill with a minimum power 600 W. Low-power drills approx. 250 W – we use for drilling in wood or soft brick
with power 350-400 W are suitable for most tasks and occasionally for harder work.
The possibility of regulating the speed increases the use of the drill ,lower speed allows drilling into metal or ceramic tiles, higher for drilling in wood. Drills with a mechanical gearbox have a better power transmission, than those with electronic control.
Some models offer round-trip rotation, which is especially useful, when we have a large number of screws to screw in, and instead of drilling, we use a drill as a screwdriver.

Impact drills
A hammer drill is required to work in concrete or stone. It is equipped with an additional mechanism, which not only rotates the drill chuck, but it also makes them vibrate, so that the drill also hits and breaks the material being drilled. Most mid-power drills on the market are equipped with an additional hammer function. The use of the hammer function requires special drill bits.
The ones most commonly used by home DIYers have diameter drill handles 10 mm lub13 mm. It is also the diameter of the drill that can be inserted into it, and the size of the drilled hole. Drills z 13 mm chuck drill bits are able to cope with most tasks.
A few other things, which are worth paying attention to when buying a drill: first of all, check that the drill has a comfortable handle and is well balanced; this may prove important for long jobs, intensive drilling.
The length of the drill cord is also important. Short cables require additional extension cords in most cases.
last thing – attachments and roots. If we are going to use accessories for the drill, such as a saw or a grinder, let's make sure you do these first, which are available on the market fit our selected model.
