Tools and materials

If we want to achieve satisfactory results, our first task will be to gather the right materials and tools. Make sure you choose the right glue for the type of tiles and (if it is necessary) mortar, take care too, to buy enough of them. Waterproof joint compound is used to seal the edges around the bathtub or washbasin. You can also purchase plastic crosses for ceramic tiles, to keep the distance between the tiles even.

Ceramic floor and wall tiles
The basic set of tools is a trowel or spatula for applying glue to a wall or floor, and a serrated plastic spatula for grooving the adhesive layer before applying tiles..

Tile cutting tools
There are many types of tile cutting tools; some are equipped with a ruler enabling precise cutting of the desired length.
For trimming edges around pipes or cutting other unusual shapes, it is best to use a tile cutter or a special saw.
The glaze file is used to smooth out uneven edges. Finally, we will need a rubber grout roller and a cleaning sponge to clean the tiles.

Mortar
We buy cement mortar in the form of a powder, which, after spreading with water, becomes a paste. You can tint it or buy a colored mortar.

Particle boards
In addition to the basic cutting tools, you will also need a hammer to nail the battens and a stapler to attach the tiles to the batten.

Polystyrene and concave tiles
Polystyrene plates come in two sizes: with equal side 30 i 60 cm; we buy concave in lengths 1 m and in the form of special corner forms. You will need a sharp knife and ruler to cut, an old brush for applying glue to polystyrene and a spatula for finishing joints and edges of concaves.

Gypsum cavities
We buy them in the form of two-meter sections; they require special cutting of the corner elements.
We will use a small handball for trimming, and then we apply the glue with a trowel or spatula. We will use sandpaper to smooth the cut edges.
